Oh Nail Polish…I love thee

Mike was getting a little on edge finding nail polish all over the house, in various bags, in various shades of red. I’m notorious for holding up three different pinks and asking him to pick one, to which he gives me a quizzical “uh, those are different look.” Hell, I even have a monthly nail polish budget. So finally I picked up all my polish at put it behind the door in my craftroom in a shoe bag thinger. Which made me realize… “oooh look how many more polishes I can fit in this thing!” Not what Mike wanted to hear.

I was an Essie only girl, until I discovered JULEP!! Oh Julep, damn you! You are the ying to my yang, the julep to my mint, the apple of my eye, the death of my nail polish budget. I’m sure you’ve heard of those monthly subscription boxes–ipsy, birch, and bark for instance–but Julep is unlike any other box service. For $19.99 a month you get a box full of nail polish. I like to get either 2 polishes and a product or three polishes. Their polishes retail for $14 at Sephora and on the Julep website, so it is a pretty good deal. Also, they have seasonal boxes that are mysteries! In one mystery box I received 4 polishes, a full sized foot scrub, file, and hair ties (oh and chocolate!) for $29!

So to start your Julep trip you take quiz to find your style. I’m “Classic with a Twist” but I also like to get the “It Girl” box because you get three polishes.

Courtney,” you’re thinking, “there are so many of these services how is this different?” Uh, because Julep let’s you preview your monthly box and allows you to SKIP! I’ve actually skipped two months because I don’t need another red and orange just doesn’t look right on me.

I did get last months 1920s themed box and I love it. The tiny lipsticks I got smell delicious. There is a pink that smells like creamsicle (yum!) and gives a slight tint to my lips. Then there are two reds: an orangey one and a beautiful blue based red.

But the best part were the two polishes (there were some super cute rosey bobby pins too!). I’ve worn both colors of polish. I didn’t change them because they chipped but, rather, because I wanted to try the other one! Right now I’m rocking Myrtle. Let me tell you, Myrtle may be THE perfect red. It isn’t too blue, it isn’t to orange, it is just right. A classic, original, signature red. I don’t just love this red, I lurv it.

Then there is this perfect pearl pink shade called Zora. It is creamy and wonderful and I love a cream polish that takes 2 coats not 40. (Ahem, Essie non-red toned cream polishes, I’m talking to you). Between these two polishes and my Essie “absolutely shore” mint green, I may be set for summer….

HAHAHAHA who am I kidding! Bring on more wonderful Julep boxes!

Oh! I almost forgot. If you get only one Julep product, get the Freedom Polymer Top Coat. You’ve heard Seche Vite is great, Seche Vite has got NUTHIN’ on Freedom Polymer Top Coat. It is like gel nails without the UV light or annoying removal. Oh and if you become a Julep Maven you get a discount on all the other Julep products.

p.s. I don’t hype stuff I get paid for. Because if I was giving a review of stuff I get paid for I’d be talking about the awesome websites I build not the awesome products I like to play…blah blah blah these opinions are my own… you know the drill.

p.p.s. Turns out I have a referral code. Who knew!? (Brennan did) I’m don’t get paid but I do get julep jules. So click here if you want to sign up!
